Everything You Need to Know Before Your Session

Studio Session Prep Guide

I'm so excited to photograph your family!

The most important thing to know before your session is this: you don't need to be perfect.

Your children don't need to sit still the entire time, your baby doesn't have to smile on cue, and you certainly don't need to know how to pose. That's my job.

My goal is to create a relaxed, enjoyable experience where you can simply be together while I gently guide you every step of the way. Some of the most beautiful photographs come from genuine laughter, cuddles and those little in-between moments.

What to Wear

The right clothing helps create timeless photographs that you'll still love decades from now.

Choose Soft, Neutral Colours

Creams, whites, oatmeal, beige, soft greys, warm browns and muted earth tones photograph beautifully in my bright, natural studio.

These colours keep the focus exactly where it belongs—on your family and your connection with one another. Just remember that for a newborn session the studio is kept very warm so layers are a good idea

Avoid

Bright neon colours

Large logos

Busy patterns

Bold graphics or text on clothing

Very dark black outfits (unless everyone is coordinated)

Simple is always best.

Mum

Choose something that makes you feel comfortable and beautiful.

Flowing dresses, knit jerseys, linen, cotton and soft textures photograph wonderfully. If you've recently had a baby, don't worry about "looking perfect." I'll guide you into flattering poses and use beautiful light to help you look your very best.

The photographs are about the love you share—not about having the perfect figure.

Dad

A simple linen or cotton shirt, plain T-shirt, knit jersey or button-up paired with chinos or neutral trousers works perfectly.

Avoid sports shirts, large logos and bright colours.

Children

Keep outfits simple and comfortable.

Neutral dresses, rompers, bloomers, knitted jerseys, overalls or plain tops photograph beautifully. Bare feet are always welcome in the studio.

If siblings are joining, try coordinating colours rather than matching exactly.

Babies

I have a small but carefully curated collection of beautiful wraps, blankets, bonnets, headbands and timeless newborn outfits available for your session.

You don't need to bring anything special unless there's a sentimental outfit or heirloom you'd love included.

IN MY STUDIO:

In my studio I have a few items of clothing for young children (see below). You are more than welcome to use any of these items but I do suggest you bring at least one of your own outfits in case these don't fit your little one.

I also have some small snacks, fruit, tea, coffee and water for you if needed.

Before You Arrive

Please try to arrive on time so we can enjoy a relaxed session together. However I know it's not always easy with little ones so please keep me posted if you're running a bit behind.

For newborn sessions, feeding your baby just before arriving (or as soon as you arrive if needed) often helps them settle beautifully.

If your baby needs feeding, changing or cuddles during the session, we'll simply pause. There is never any rush.
